State of the Bill
I watched the end of the State of the Union address at the Shriver Center food court tonight, as did several people. They had half the TVs on FOX News (bleh!) and half were on CNN (half bleh) and I don't know whose idea that was but the audio was delayed on once channel. Gotta love the echo effect.
If there was a good part to the speech, it was before I started watching.

I was actually in town for a fire, for once. I even made it on to the first truck. A rare occasion these days. Put the wet stuff on the red stuff, etc. It was an attic/roof fire on W. Church Street. A firefighter blacked out towards the end of the incident, so that was worrysome at the time. He was ok, though. Just over-exerted.
There are several more pictures on flickr if you click on the one to the right.
I have tomorrow night off, so I'm heading back to Columbus in the morning. Hopefully I'll get some family time in during the day, and some social time in at night. I'm pleased.
It's time to watch Grey's Anatomy. Mmmm, television.
People argued in class tonight that television can't be art. psh!
Southern Living
And so begins my third day on Central time. I've just woke up and had my morning shower, and soon I'll be off to 5:30 breakfast.
I'm taking a Weapons of Mass Destruction for Emergency Medical Services class in Alabama, taught by the Department of Homeland Security's Center for Domestic Preparedness.
When I traveled down here on Tuesday, I flew in to Atlanta where other people attending the class from all over the country met up and boarded a bus to Alabama. While I waited in the atrium of Atlanta's international airport, on the second floor appeared a line of over a hundred U.S. soldiers who must have been returning from a tour of duty. Everyone on all levels of the atrium turned to them and applauded. I'm sure people in the airport that day waiting for flights and grabbing some food had a wide variety of views on the war in Iraq, but everyone applauded our soldiers. I couldn't help but smile. The applause continued for over five minutes as they all streamed by.
Yesterday was spent in half lecture, and half practical exercise. We wore the silver suits with big boots and three layers of gloves, tanks on our backs and masks on our face, and duct tape sealing every opening between us and the outside air. We practiced decontamination and moving victims from the warm zone of an incident. It was quite sweaty and tiring.
Today, more learning. It is time to head to breakfast. They feed us well.
Sweet Home Alabama
I'm leaving for Alabama this morning - attending a Weapons of Mass Destruction course for work. I'll be back on the 7th.
I should be able to check email while I'm down there. Stay tuned!
